Istanbul, Turkey – In a move that has sparked widespread concern, Turkish authorities have detained Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu as part of ongoing corruption and terror investigations.
Imamoglu, a key rival to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has been accused of attempting to influence a judicial officer, expert, or witness, which could result in a prison sentence of up to four years and a political ban.

Imamoglu’s legal team has highlighted procedural irregularities in Buyukcanayakin’s reports, including the absence of required co-signatures from additional experts, which rendered the reports invalid.
