Russia Violates Putin’s Easter Truce, Says Zelenskyy
Despite Russian President Vladimir Putin’s declaration of an Easter ceasefire, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported immediate violations, citing relentless shelling, drone strikes, and assaults by Russian forces.
According to Zelenskyy, between ”6pm and midnight on April 19”, Russian troops launched 387 attacks on Ukrainian positions and carried out ”19 assaults”. Additionally, 290 drones were deployed by Russian forces, further intensifying the conflict.
This escalation comes at a time when Russia’s economy has suffered a significant setback, following a former ally’s decision to end its reliance on the country.
As of Easter morning, Zelenskyy stated: “Overall, we can state that the Russian army is attempting to create the general impression of a ceasefire, while in some areas still continuing isolated attempts to advance and inflict losses on Ukraine. Russia must fully comply with the conditions of the ceasefire.”
Furthermore, Zelenskyy mentioned that Ukraine had proposed a 30-day ceasefire starting from midnight on Easter Monday, emphasizing that the offer remains on the table. However, he clarified that Ukraine would mirror Russia’s actions on the ground, responding accordingly to any violations
