Colombian Presidential Candidate Miguel Uribe Shot in Bogotá

Miguel Uribe, a 39-year-old Colombian senator and presidential candidate, was shot during a campaign event in Bogotá’s Fontibon district on Saturday. Uribe, a member of the opposition conservative Democratic Center party, was hosting a rally in a public park when armed subjects shot him in the back.

### Details of the Attack

– Uribe was shot three times, twice in the head, according to paramedics.

– The attack occurred in the presence of around 20 people, including councilman Andres Barrios.

– Images shared on social media showed Uribe bleeding from the head as bystanders rushed to help him.

### Aftermath and Investigation

– Uribe is receiving emergency medical care, with Bogotá’s entire hospital network on alert in case a transfer is needed.

– A suspect, reportedly a minor, has been arrested in connection with the attack and is being treated for a leg injury. A firearm was recovered from the scene.

– Colombian police chief Gen Carlos Triana confirmed the arrest and stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine if others were involved.

### Reactions

– Colombian President Gustavo Petro condemned the attack, expressing solidarity with Uribe’s family on social media. “I don’t know how to ease your pain. It is the pain of a mother lost, and of a wounded homeland,” Petro posted.

– The Colombian government issued a statement categorically rejecting the violent attack and calling for a thorough investigation.

### About the Victim

– Miguel Uribe is a member of the Democratic Center party, founded by former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe. The two men are not related.

– Uribe’s mother, journalist Diana Turbay, was killed in 1991 during a rescue operation after being kidnapped by Pablo Escobar’s Medellin cartel.
