Veteran actor Neal McDonough has recently opened up about a challenging period in his career, stating that “Hollywood turned on me” after he maintained a personal boundary of not kissing other women on-screen. This stance, which he attributes to his deeply held personal convictions and respect for his wife, reportedly led to job loss and significant financial difficulties.
In a recent interview, McDonough, known for roles in “Band of Brothers,” “Minority Report,” and “Yellowstone,” revealed that he has always included clauses in his contracts specifying his refusal to engage in on-screen intimate scenes with anyone other than his wife. He explained that while his wife supported this decision, the entertainment industry did not always accommodate it.
“When I couldn’t do it, and they couldn’t understand it, Hollywood just completely turned on me, and they wouldn’t let me be part of the show anymore,” McDonough stated. He recounted a period of approximately two years where he found it exceptionally difficult to secure roles, leading to the loss of material possessions and a significant blow to his sense of identity as an actor. He described this time as a “tailspin.”
The actor has previously spoken about this issue, recalling an instance in 2010 where he was reportedly fired from a television series for refusing an intimate scene. Despite these setbacks, McDonough has continued to work in the industry, often in roles that do not require such scenes. His recent film, “The Last Rodeo,” even featured his real-life wife in a role that allowed for an on-screen kiss within his personal parameters.
