Trump Reacted to the French Recognition of Palestine as a state

Date:

Edinburgh, Scotland – July 26, 2025 –

United States President Donald Trump, currently on a visit to Scotland, weighed in on France’s recent decision to recognize the state of Palestine, stating, ;

“That’s fine; it’s up to him.”

His comments came as France’s move garnered strong reactions from various global players, including sharp condemnation from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

President Trump, speaking to reporters before playing golf at his Turnberry resort, adopted a notably more subdued tone than other prominent US officials regarding French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement.

While acknowledging Macron as a “very good guy,” Trump downplayed the significance of the recognition, saying it “doesn’t carry any weight” and “doesn’t matter.” Macron had announced France’s intention to officially recognize Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September.
