The inquest heard evidence that the arrest and subsequent media coverage had a profound impact on the teenager’s mental health. After her death, her family expressed concerns about the handling of the arrest and its potential effects on their daughter’s well-being.

The coroner found that the teenager’s death was linked to the trauma and distress caused by her arrest and the ongoing investigation. The coroner’s report highlighted the need for greater consideration of the potential impact on young people’s mental health when conducting counter-terrorism operations.

The family’s lawyer said they would be seeking an independent review into the police’s actions. The police force involved has expressed condolences to the family and stated they would carefully consider the coroner’s findings.
